Everyone plans and anticipates and makes up a story in their head about a trip before they even go on it. They have hopes and desires of what a trip will be like. Some normal and simple like “this trip is gonna be great, I can’t wait to see *insert whatever*. Others a bit less sensical like something based on tv and movies where someone goes on a trip and magically falls in love with *insert whatever type of person you dream of here* and things are just amazing forever after.

Ok, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way now. Stop! Just stop your crazy…

I’m not saying travel romances don’t happen. They do! I’ve seen them first hand. And that’s fantastic (if that’s what you want). And I’m not saying completely serendipitous events like accidentally getting invited to some big time party or on the yatch of some rich aristocrat  or falling in love won’t happen. It definitely can.

All things are possible in this world but setting expectations prior to a trip other than things like “I want to have fun” or “I want to come back with stories to tell my currently non-existent, unconsidered grandchildren” is a bit far fetched. Going off to experience a new place and things and saying emphatically you are going to meet the person of your dreams and settle down with them after two days is, in my opinion, setting yourself up for a failed trip and a disappointing experience.

What do I think is a failed trip you might ask? Brilliant question! A failed trip is a trip where you come back disappointed because you set your expectations too freaking high! I mean, let’s be real here. The goal of any trip should be very basic. See a new place. Experience new things. Come back with a smile and some stories to tell. Anything else is just a cherry on top!

If I had gone on any of my trips… anywhere….expecting to meet aristocracy or my dream man, I would be a very disappointed person because it hasn’t happened. HOWEVER, I haven’t done that. Every trip I’ve taken, I gone into with an open mind. The only thing I have ever expected is to arrive at my destination see and do what I can and have fun!

Putting undue pressure on an event before is ever happens is a sure fire way to cock block a good time!
